About The Crossing
So called because of its proximity to the crossroads
at the town centre of Worksop, Nottinghamshire,
'The Crossing' is properly titled
'The Crossing Church & Centre'
Opened in May 2006 by an ecumenical partnership of the adjacent town centre Methodist and United Reformed Churches, the building has added immeasurably to the town centre, being a modern, architecturally 'wow factor' modern facility which simultaneously serves the Christian church and the local community. Its flexible-space sanctuary and halls may at various times host a church service, a community lunch club, an induction day for a local organisation, a volunteer sector Open Day, a land reclamation public consultation day or a classical concert of high quality such as Cantamus shown opposite.
Performance Acoustics
The concert hall is made up of three sections separated by moveable partitions and it is when all are opened that the 350 seat capacity is revealed and the superb sound associated with the 1.4 second reverberation time emerges whether it results from a choir, an orchestra, a Championship brass band, an instrumental or vocal soloist. Considerable attention was paid at the design stage to ensure that the walls and high ceilings produced the desired acoustic.
In-House Instruments
The Crossing offers a recital standard 3-manual draw stop Makin Westmorland organ, brought to life by superb international recitalists including the renowned Carlo Curley. A 1927 9' Bechstein Model E concert grand piano, completely rebuilt, is now in place thanks to the generosity of local music lovers, Nottinghamshire County Council, Bassetlaw District Council and Arts Council England.
Other benefits of The Crossing
For the performer we offer ample changing and holding facilities and The Crossing
Café can provide teatime food of a high standard. Recitalists and choristers comment
regularly on what a pleasure it is to perform in The Crossing.
For the audience there

in which to really enjoy an excellent concert……
